ISLA DEL SOL | 2012

FOUR YEARS AGO

A big thumbs up to Facebook's "On This Day" feature for reminding me about this one! I hadn't realized it has already been FOUR YEARS since I started attending out of town RAVES!

Crazy how fast time flies...

FIRST OUT OF TOWN RAVE

I was 15 years old at the time I attended my first out of town rave, (the first rave I ever went to was in my hometown, Laredo, TX. Tiesto - May 2012). The best part about this experience was that I got to share the entire weekend with my good homie, LEO

This was only the first of many road trips to music festivals!

ISLA DEL SOL

September 1-3, 2012 marked the first annual Isla Del Sol. The 3 day music festival was held at Schlitterbahn Water Park in South Padre Island, TX

That year's DJ line up included Sunnery James & Ryan MarcianoArimin Van Burren, Bingo Players, Kaskade, and many more!

ROOKIE

This was also the first time I attempted to take my camera into an event, knowing there were rules against that, i gave it a shot. At the entrance of the venue, security, as expected, told me that "professional cameras" were not allowed. I didn't give up right away. I asked if there was someone I could speak to about taking my camera in, one of the event promoters over heard the conversation and asked me for my name, I kept my cool. I assumed they were waiting on someone, or, i'm not sure, maybe they were short on photographers. Whatever the case was, i got introduced to the main photographer of the event. She asked me a few questions before allowing me to shoot:

Photographer - "Who are you shooting for?"
Rolan - "Myself, just for fun"
Photographer - "What will you do with these photos?"
Rolan - "Not sure, probably edit them."

I came off as a kid who just wanted to document his first festival experience. She then made me sign a waiver, promising i won't sell the photos or anything like that. I was 15, still learning the ropes of photography, selling my photos then was probably the last thing on my mind. Not only did she hook it up with permission to shoot, she gave me VIP access! I still have that lanyard

Check out my photos in the slideshow below!

CRY JUST A LITTLe

Cry for Bingo Players

EDM music can make you go through all the feels at the same damn time, especially at a music festival! My man with the blue bandanna couldn't hold back the excitement and broke down in tears when Bingo Players took the stage. We had no idea who that guy was!

Let's call him Mike...you go mike! We got you fam!
